Trail Description
- Quba Walkway (Mamsha Quba) is a long, landscaped pedestrian route in Madinah that extends from Quba Mosque to the first ring road around Masjid Al-nabawi. The walkway provides a clean and inviting space for walking, jogging, and cycling. It is lined with tourist shops, malls and cafes. There are also places where you can rent bikes.
Historical & Cultural Significance
- The walkway begins at Quba Mosque, which is the first mosque established during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This was the Prophet’s first stop when he arrived in Madinah after making hijra from Makkah.
- The walkway passes by Masjid Jumuah, which was built on the location where the Prophet (peace be upon him) led the first Jumu’ah prayer after making hijra to Madinah.
- It continues toward Masjid Al-nabawi, following a route similar to the route the Prophet (peace be upon him) would have taken on his camel Qaswa, when entering the city or Madinah for the first time.
Religious Significance
NEEDS TO BE FINISHED – Quba Mosque, located near the lower end of the walkway, holds a special place in Islamic tradition. It is recognized as the first mosque built by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ after his arrival in Madinah. Visiting and praying in Quba Mosque is considered a virtuous act, and it is narrated that the Prophet ﷺ used to visit the mosque regularly, sometimes walking to it from the city. For many visitors today, walking to the mosque — whether from nearby hotels, neighborhoods, or along this walkway — carries a symbolic and spiritual continuity with that practice.
