Trail Description
Al-Bayda (البيضاء) is a desert area located roughly 30–40 km north-northwest of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. It’s a broad natural desert area that today functions as a popular desert recreation and nature spot, often referred to as “منتزه البيضاء البري” (Al-Bayda Wild Park). The area is characterized by white sandy expanses and desert plains surrounded by rocky hills and mountain formations, giving it the name Al-Bayda (“the white”) due to the pale sands and light-colored rock.
Al-Bayda Wild Park is a well-known outdoor destination for Saudis and foreign visitors. It’s popular for camping, picnics, walking, trail hikes, and mountain-view photography, especially in winter and cooler months.
While the park does not have formally marked hiking trails, hikers generally follow three common route types:
Easy:
Flat sand and gravel roads inside of the park
Moderate:
Gentle climbs onto low ridges and plateaus, with wide views of the desert and surrounding landscape.
Adventure / Exploratory:
Unmarked climbs on the mountains, which require basic navigation awareness and good footwear. Best for experienced hikers or hiking groups.
